Nutter announces 2011 “Welcome America” performers

In a departure from previous years, Mayor Michael Nutter announced this morning a handful acts joining the Roots for this year’s Fourth of July “Welcome America” event.

Instead of overall crowd-pleasers life Sheryl Crow and the Goo Goo Dolls, a handful of old and new favorites will take the stage.
Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael McDonald, Estelle, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Sara Bareielles are part of this year’s festivities, as WHYY’s Tom MacDonald tells us. The concert will also include a 40th anniversary tribute to Gamble & Huff’s “The Sound of Philadelphia.”
