No struggle to pay for Philly’s Welcome America Festival

Philadelphia, Welcome America is being supplemented by city funding. Mayor Michael Nutter says the festival is more than a community celebration.

Philadelphia’s Fourth of July Welcome America Festival isn’t worrying about getting a big bill from the city.

While many parades and festivals are struggling to survive in Philadelphia, Welcome America is being supplemented by city funding. Mayor Michael Nutter says the festival is more than a community celebration.

    Nutter:
Sponsored by the city, supported by the city, it is not only a city event, it is essentially a national event celebrating the Fourth of July in Philadelphia, the birthplace of liberty, freedom, and democracy.

The mayor says city sponsored events don’t have to pay the same as community festivals or parades, because they are run by the city and sponsors are found to help defray the costs of the events.
