No Plan B yet, but Delaware County animal shelter will open next spring

A solid Plan B isn’t in place yet for Delaware County’s interim animal control service, but an opening date for the new shelter has been firmed up.

With the county SPCA ending its animal control service agreement at the end of the year, Delco needs to find an alternative. Ground breaks today for a new facility, but the Delaware County Times reports the shelter won’t open until May or June of next year.

The Animal Protection Board has been working to find a temporary destination for animal intake, but so far, no concrete plans have been made. A handful of nearby shelters look like likely allies, but no formal agreement has been made the county won’t name the shelters until the private entities talk the deal over with their boards of directors.
