No cash at EZ Pass only exit on AC Expressway

People who drive through without EZ Pass will get a polite bill

A new interchange is open on the Atlantic City Expressway. It will be a new experience for South Jersey drivers because you cannot use cash to pay your toll.

For two decades, residents of the Mays Landing/Hamilton Township area have been asking for an exit from the Atlantic City Expressway. Sharon Gordon, Deputy Executive Director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority says now they have one. She says interchange 17 will be EZ Pass only and no cash will be collected from those exiting the highway.

“Almost 70% of our motorists on our roadway are EZ Pass users and it keeps the traffic moving on the Atlantic City Expressway. The decision to put EZ pass only on that exit was to create efficiencies there and to implement some upgrades in our toll technology.”

Gordon says for a few weeks, warnings will be sent to those who go through the tolls without EZ Pass with a way to pay by credit card or to sign up for a pass.

The toll is $3, the same as the Egg Harbor tolls which are about a mile away, but more than the $.75 tolls that’s standard at other exits on the roadway.
