N.J. mom charged with trying to kill her 3 children

Prosecutors say the southern New Jersey woman accused of trying to drown her three teenage children in the Delaware River could soon be in court.

A Thursday court appearance for 49-year-old Jean Smith in Mount Holly is possible. She’s held on $600,000 bail, charged with attempted murder.

Burlington County Prosecutor Robert Bernardi says the Florence Township resident drove onto a boat ramp and into the water around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A bystander helped Smith and the three children, who are aged 15, 14 and 13, escape from the partially submerged vehicle. One of the children suffered cuts.
