NJ Assembly Speaker discusses voucher bill

Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver, D-Essex, discussed the voucher bill with NJ Spotlight this week, saying she’s not against the underlying concept of the proposed Opportunity Scholarship Act (OSA).

However, Oliver does believe, according to the NJ Spotlight report, the votes aren’t there for the bill as it is proposed now.

OSA would provide through tax credits up to $12,000 “scholarships” for select poor children to attend private schools, according to NJ Spotlight.

NJ Spotlight reports the Assembly Speaker doesn’t believe any further action on the bill would happen until after the legislative elections in the fall.
