Two music acts confirmed for Night Market line up

Mt. Airy USA (MAUSA) has confirmed Ryan Shaw and Reckless Amateurs as two of the music acts lined up to perform at this year’s Night Market. MAUSA is bringing back the popular food event to Mt. Airy in partnership with public radio station, WXPN and The Food Trust. Night Market will be held along Germantown Avenue on August 16 at 6pm.

Ryan Shaw, who is a WXPN Artist to Watch, is expected to be the headliner. “We’re very psyched about that,” exclaimed Elizabeth Moselle, Director of Commercial Corridor Revitalization & the Business Association of Mt. Airy (BAM).

MAUSA’s Executive Director, Anuj Gupta stated that WXPN is “working on bringing one more” musical act to the festival. Gupta did not have information on who that could be.

A ticketed area for those who want to drink alcoholic beverages may be a new addition to this year’s Night Market. While details are still being worked out, Moselle explained that tickets – likely to cost $35 – will guarantee seating and include wine and beer. Yards Brewery is the beer sponsor for the festival, however, several food vendors will also be serving libations. Tickets will be able to be purchased in advance through GoMtAiry’s website.

In addition to nine participating neighborhood restaurants, MAUSA is hoping to have 25 food truck vendors at Night Market. “We’ve had a very strong response,” noted Moselle.

Night Market was first brought to the neighborhood in 2011 under a grant received by The Food Trust and attracted around 7,500 attendees. MAUSA, who is responsible for all costs this time around, expects attendance to reach 10,000 at this year’s festival.
