Newtown Athletic Club plans $12 million expansion

Work began last week on the Newtown Athletic Club, where a $12 million expansion plan calls for a larger fitness center, more sports programs and a pool complex.

The 12,000-square-foot center is set to open in January.

“We just want to be one of the finest health clubs in America,” owner Jim Worthington told PhillyBurbs. The 10,000-member club has already expanded its cafe, added a new reception space and renovated its spa. When all is said and done, the club will take up 275,000 square feet of space
