General Meade’s birthday celebration at Laurel Hill Cemetery – Dec. 31

This annual General Meade celebration marks the birth and wedding anniversary of General George G. Meade, commander of the Union Army at the Battle of Gettysburg. The event features Civil War re-enactors, civilians in period attire, special dignitaries, speeches and a 21-gun salute. The program is always capped off with a graveside champagne toast, the General’s favorite libation, and is followed by a reception in the Gatehouse.

Manayunk New Year’s Eve Passport Party – Dec. 31

If you’re looking to bar hop your way into 2011, the Manayunk passport is an option. One passport gives you access to drinks, food and dance floors at The Bayou and Cactus Cantina on Main Street.

New Year’s Eve at Bourbon Blue – Dec. 31

Bourbon Blue is offering three different New Year’s Eve packages for 2011. All include an open bar, hor d’oeuvres, DJs and a champagne toast at midnight. 

Roxy Plunge at Roxborough YMCA – Jan. 1

The Roxborough YMCA is taking the Polar Bear Plunge to a whole new depth with the first annual Roxy Plunge. On New Year’s Day, the YMCA will be lowering the pool temperature and inviting the community to start the new year off with a dive and a chill. Warm refreshments and snacks will be served following the plunge.
