New Miss America frolics in the surf

The new Miss America took the traditional morning-after romp through the Atlantic City surf Monday, noting the ocean water is colder in New Jersey than in her home state.

Miss Georgia Betty Cantrell won the title Sunday night.

Cantrell rode an opera performance from “Madame Butterfly” to the 2016 title in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, besting 51 other competitors in the nationally televised pageant.

She said she was working on 45 minutes of sleep and five cups of coffee, posing for photos with children on the Atlantic city Boardwalk after getting her feet wet.

The pageant marked the return of Vanessa Williams, who was back for the first time after resigning the crown in 1984 following a nude photo scandal.
