New life for old theatre: Lansdowne Theatre receives grant

Organizers behind a major renovation project say they want to see the marquee lit up again at the old Lansdowne Theatre.

The historic theatre, which was closed in 1987 after an electrical fire, is set to see new life after a grant was warded to the Historic Lansdowne Theatre Corporation by the County Council.

KYW Newsradio reports the grant, worth $126,000, will jump start a $9 million effort to renovate the theatre. The project will enable the theatre to host live shows and concerts, in addition to movies.

The Lansdowne Theatre opened in the 1920’s.
