New Jersey’s 10 best municipal websites

What do Monmouth, Bergen, Mercer and Middlesex counties have in common?

Those four New Jersey counties have the state’s 10 best municipal websites, according to research from the Monmouth University Polling Institute and the Graduate Program in Public Policy.

Middletown Township in Monmouth County took the top spot, and Bergen County’s Fort Lee Borough was No. 10. But Mercer County might be the actual winner, because four of its municipalities — West Windsor Township, Princeton Township (that’s pre-merger), Robbinsville Township and Lawrence Township— made the top 10 .

The findings were based on several factors that boil down to four key points: the availability of basic information, the opportunities for citizens to engage with their governments, the accessibility of forms and services, and the use of social media.
