Atlantic County man sets himself on fire outside a Veterans Affairs clinic

Police say a New Jersey man set himself on fire outside a Veterans Affairs clinic in Northfield.

Police told The Press of Atlantic City that the man, from Egg Harbor Township, used gasoline to set himself on fire Saturday.

The newspaper reported the man was taken by helicopter from the Northfield Community School to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia around 2 p.m. A hospital spokesman said Saturday night that the man was in critical condition.

Authorities do not suspect foul play, and they told the newspaper they aren’t looking for anyone else in relation to the man’s injuries.

A police spokesman didn’t immediately return a call for further details.
