New Jersey lawmakers to hear about safety at state’s nuclear sites

New Jersey lawmakers will convene in Trenton today for a briefing on the safety of the state’s nuclear power plants. The review comes after an earthquake and tsunami in Japan damaged four reactors designed similarly to New Jersey’s Hope Creek and Oyster Creek plants.

The Associated Press reports top officials from homeland security and the environmental department are slated to testify, as well as senior executives from Hope Creek, Oyster Creek, Salem I and Salem II.

WHYY’s Phil Gregory will have more this story later.
