New Jersey DMV will take Mondays off

Get ready for some changes in the hours of operation at New Jersey Motor Vehicle offices.

Beginning July 31, all 43 of the Motor Vehicle offices in the Garden State will be closed on Mondays. Chief Administrator Ray Martinez says those offices will stay open until 7:30 at night on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Saturday hours are being extended until 1 in the afternoon.

“Customers like later hours and they like Saturday hours because they don’t have to take off from work and we’re very sensitive to that,” Martinez says.

According to Martinez this will not only be more convenient for customers, the changes will save the state about $4 million. The new hours do not apply to motor vehicle inspection stations.
