New Indian River Inlet Bridge in use starting today

The newly-constructed Indian River Inlet Bridge is open for vehicular traffic as of today.

The new structure will open in phases.  Today, southbound Route 1 traffic is being routed onto the new bridge.  The next phase will take place shortly afterwards as northbound traffic is shifted to the new crossing.  For the remainder of the winter and spring, the traffic pattern will consist of one lane in each direction on the southbound side of the new bridge.  Approaches are also being completed in preparation for a full spring 2012 opening and official dedication ceremony.  The bridge will carry four lanes of vehicular traffic as well as pedestrians and bicyclists.
