The New Castle County Council has approved a one-time bonus for county employees as a reward for working through “austere times.”

The council approved the $750 bonuses for more than 1,350 county employees on Tuesday. The bonuses will go to full-time workers who have been on the job for at least 60 days. Checks will be distributed later this year.

County spokesman Antonio Prado says the bonuses will cost the county about $1.1 million. The county will use money saved from Fiscal Year 2015 to fund the bonuses.
