Thousands without power in Philadelphia, South Jersey

More than 5,000 Center City PECO customers are without power, and 1,000 in New Jersey are experiencing the same. Action News reports it’s not clear how long power will be down, but PECO is working to restore service.

Meanwhile, three counties in southern New Jersey are dealing with power outages that officials have not yet determined the cause of.

More than 1,000 people in Salem, Cumberland and Gloucester counties are without power, Today’s Sunbeam reports, but it’s unclear if the storms that hit early this afternoon were the cause.

We had our own outage here at WHYY. Those listening to 91 FM probably didn’t notice, but the building went dark for a few seconds as our back-up generator worked to reconnect us to PECO.
