More problems found at DRPA in N.J. investigation
A New Jersey state report finds some troubling practices at the Delaware River Port Authority, including paying insurance brokers who did no work for them.
The state comptroller’s report issued Thursday finds Democratic powerbroker George Norcross’ insurance firm received payments as a way to balance commissions for insurance brokers in New Jersey even though the Pennsylvania firms did most of the work.
Norcross says his firm, now known as Conner Strong & Buckelew, received payments from another insurance broker for reasons unconnected to the DRPA.
The report also finds commissioners went to black-tie dinners on the authority’s dime and arranged for their grown children to get free bridge tolls.
The agency that operates four Philadelphia-area bridges says it has fixed many of the problems.
