Mode Shift: Philadelphia’s Two-Wheeled Revolution in Progress

Bicycle Coalition study shows that South Philadelphia and Center City boast some of the highest levels of bike commuting in the country.  It also documents that the City’s bike commuting rate has grown 151% between 2000 and 2009 and that high quality bike lanes such as Spruce and Pine have improved bicycling behavior and made the streets safer for cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.  All of these findings together show that more high quality lanes are needed to meet the growing demand and that they will make the city’s streets safer.
