MLB players poll: Chase Utley is second-meanest in the league

“Recount!” WHYY’s Dave Davies demanded this morning at our daily meeting.

He pointed us to this Sports Illustrated Players Poll, which finds Chase Utley to be the second-meanest in the league.

While No. 8 Albert Pujols and No. 3. Milton Bradley are depicted screaming at umps, Utley’s photo potrays him more as concerned—determined, even—than mean.

And though his peers might find him a bit off-putting, not so long ago they considered him smart. An older SI poll of players landed Utley the No. 7 spot on the intelligence list. Roy Halladay was No. 5 and Placido Polanco was No. 10.

Yet another poll finds Raul Ibanez to be the second-nicest. Pujols is on that list, too, by the way. And he’s the fourth-smartest. What’s with that guy?
