Missing tortoise travels from Maryland to Pennsylvania

It had been over week since Maryland resident Bill Athey last saw Chester, his 12-year-old African tortoise. Sometime on July 4th, Chester wandered off the Athey property and made his way into the woods.

Delawareonline.com reported that an electric worker restoring power in the area found a “giant turtle” two days later on July 6. He reportedly sold Chester to a wildlife enthusiast for $350 who then brought the tortoise to a farm in Pennsylvania.

When word of his owner’s search reached the farm through contacts at a nature preserve, Chester and Athey were finally reunited; nine days and two states later.
