Mellits succeeds Sklaroff at Ballard Spahr

Bart I. Mellits is now chairman of the Ballard Spahr Real Estate Department, taking the reins from department founder Michael Sklaroff.

Mellits’ has worked on a wide variety of commercial projects, biotech parks, university research facilities, medical and other office office buildings, warehouse and distribution facilities, regional shopping centers and hotels. He has previously served as vice chair of the real estate department and a member of Ballard Spahr’s elected board. As chairman, he will lead 110 lawyers in 11 of the firm’s 13 offices, according to a company press release.

Sklaroff established the department at Ballard Spahr 25 years ago. Sklaroff was part of the development of many landmark buildings in the region, including the Philadelphia orchestra’s home at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “He will continue his active practice in real estate development, land use, and eminent domain,” the press release states.
