McDonald’s makes good on promise to serve apples with Happy Meals

“You want apples with that?” is no longer a question.

In an initiative announced over the summer, Philadelphia-area McDonald’s are now serving apples automatically with Happy Meals. It’s part of a bigger menu change for kids, who will now get a smaller serving of fries with their meals, the option to have two apple servings instead of fries and drink choices of fat-free chocolate milk and 1 percent white milk.

The apples have been a Happy Meal option since 2004, but it turns out that given the choice between fries and apples, kids prefer the fries. With the apples comes a photo contest. In partnership with 95.7 BenFM, McDonald’s wants parents to submit “what makes them happy” photos for a chance to win a Happy Meal party, gift card and a visit from Ronald McDonald.
