McColgan says council, not mayoral race, is his focus

Doesn’t look like Joe McColgan has any intentions of replacing Karen Brown as the city’s GOP mayoral candidate.

The council-at-large candidate released a statement today that says pretty much that:

“I was humbled to hear from so many city leaders urging me to run for mayor, but I am 100% committed to becoming the next at large city councilman for Philadelphia.  It’s clear that our message is resonating, and that momentum continues to build for our campaign.”

Though McColgan says a group of ward leaders encouraged him to consider a stab at the mayoral election, Brown would have to step down before ward leaders could nominate McColgan. Michael Meehan of the Republican City Committee tells Clout that sort of move would only serve to raise McColgan’s profile a little bit.
