Marines firing mortars at Joint Base today
Residents near Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst may hear “booms” and feel “rumbles” today.
“Guess who’s back, back again. Marines are back. Tell a friend,” a Joint Base release states.
The 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines, a reserve infantry unit, will be conducting live fire mortar training at the installation from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., according to the release.
“This will cause moderate noise and light ground shaking. Please note, the noise may be louder and travel further during cloudy or overcast weather,” the release states. “The Joint Base GREATLY appreciates your patience and cooperation as we ensure the readiness of our nation’s fighting force.”
The 42,000-acre installation spans more than 20 miles through portions of Burlington and Ocean counties.
