Beginning Saturday at noon until mid-day Friday the 29th, a major detour is in place for the city of Philadelphia and big trucks will feel the pain.

PennDOT’s Gene Blaum says everything heavier than 5 tons, from motorhomes to big trucks will not be able to use I-95 between the airport and Center City.

Blaum says the detour, which uses the Platt bridge, Schuylkill Expressway and I-676 are going to be very busy handing the traffic.

“It’s going to make the particular highways more congested, we have put the word out on June 23rd about the traffic restriction and have made an aggressive outreach to the trucking industry,” he said.

Blaum says even those in passenger cars will have to take a detour if they want to go to South Philadelphia.

“The only restriction that will be in effect is the closure of the 95 Ramps at Broad Street, which is exit 17,” he said.

Blaum says he’s not sure yet what the restrictions will be Friday when Hillary Clinton speaks at Independence Hall.
