Magazzu’s freeholder seat will be filled next week

The Cumberland County freeholders will be fully staffed again by next week. The board says it will decide at its Aug. 23 meeting who will replace former Freeholder Lou Magazzu, who resigned earlier this month after nude photos he sent to a woman surfaced online.

Freeholders will choose among Charlie Thomas and  Donna Pearson of Bridgeton and Francis Riley of the county Democratic Party committee. The chosen freeholder will finish out Magazzu’s term, and Freeholder Deputy Director James Dunkins has already announced plans to run for that seat in the fall election.
