Local Red Cross chapter prepares to send aid to Japan

As of now, no personnel from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Red Cross will be delpoyed to Japan to aid in disaster relief. A magnitude 8.9 quake struck this morning, killing hundreds so far.

You can donate to the cause through the local Red Cross chapter, or make a $10 contribution by texting REDCROSS to 90999. Dave Schrader, director of communications for the SEPA chapter, says the American outlet is working with Japan to determine what type of assistance is needed there, and will ship blood there upon request from the Japanese government or Japanese Red Cross.

As the Red Cross does not collect blood in Hawaii, where many areas face after-effects of the quake, it will work with agencies there should a need for blood arise.
