Local female business owners show support for Sen. candidate Tom Smith

Female business owners gathered in Northeast Philadelphia Thursday Morning to show their support for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tom Smith.

The “Women for Smith” press conference was hosted at Torresdale Flower Shop, owned by Antoniette Montgomery.  She says Smith would be a great senator for people like her.

“Because he started out in a small business and he understands where we’re all coming from,” explained Montgomery, “I started my business in 2000, and I’ve been struggling. But I love what I do and I’m hoping I can just keep doing it.”

Smith says he supports equal pay for women, but his talk focused on rebuilding the economy.

“Business owners like Antoniette, they’re all over this state. Men, women, the whole thing, and it’s the economy. They’re concerned about that too,” claimed Smith, “So that’s a women’s issue. The economy is.”

Recent polls show that Smith is closing in on the Democratic incumbent Bob Casey.

Smith is now only six points behind Casey in the poll released by Quinnipiac University.
