List of Philadelphia School District’s private contract payouts

Weeks of work has paid off for Parents United for Public Education. The group’s Philadelphia chapter filed a “right-to-know” request for the public documents that detail the School District of Philadelphia’s private contract payouts.

The result is a multi-page list dated May 19, 2011 that lists private contracts for $20,000 or more.

NewsWorks partner the Public School Notebook enlisted the help of blogger and Parents United member Helen Gym to break down the list, which she says is far more detailed than the School Reform Commission resolutions posted monthly.

In particular, Gym questions $986,000 spent on PR, governmental, and marketing contracts despite what she says is the District’s $2.86 million budget for a 20-person communications office.
