Line forms early for back-to-school giveaway at Germantown’s Concord School House
The line started forming at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, 90 minutes before the Concord School House, in partnership with the 6300 Block Business Alliance, started distributing backpacks filled with school supplies as part of their fifth annual giveaway event.
Saturday morning’s event was the biggest of the five.
Starting with 50 fully loaded backpacks — folders, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, notebooks and crayons — this year’s event featured 300 thanks to increased community support, according to Concord School Treasurer Michael Schweisheimer.
Youths also took tours of the Concord Schoolhouse which, built in 1775, is a complete nineteenth century schoolroom accompanied by a burial ground.
Co-sponsors included Elfant-Wissahickon Realtors/The Neil Kugelman Team, Trolley Car Diner, National Penn Bank, New Covenant Church, Trader Joe’s of Jenkintown and Historic Germantown.
