Lifelong Philadelphia resident celebrates 111th birthday

Today’s a big day for Willie Mae Lassiter. The lifelong Philadelphian will celebrate her 111th birthday today with the help of Mayor Michael Nutter and friends.

She’ll mark the milestone in West Philadelphia’s Penn Center for Rehabilitation and Care, where she lives in good health and attends regular church services.

In June, Flossie Carter — believed to be Pennsylvania’s oldest resident — celebrated her 111th birthday in Pittsburgh, beating Lassiter to the unofficial title by just a few months.
