Latest council petition challenge takes aim at party qualifications

Brian Rudnick is the Green Party candidate for Philadelphia’s 8th District Council race. Or is he?

Opponent Jim Foster says he’s not, and has filed a challenge saying as much. Foster says Rudnick should be tossed from the race for passing himself off as the candidate of choice for a party that’s not endorsed him.

Rudnick tells NewsWorks the Green Party is really only a “political body,” and therefore, he is allowed to run as the Green candidate because the body’s bylaws are out-of-date since losing its minor party status.

Meanwhile, Foster still faces challenges from Rudnick and Democratic opponent Cindy Bass, who’ve both questioned Foster’s ability to collect more than the necessary amount of petition signatures in such a short amount of time.
