Ventilation systems are needed for two schools that were built over a landfill in southern New Jersey.
Methane and carbon monoxide have been found in the soil under the middle and high schools in Pleasantville.School Superintendent Garnell Bailey tells The Press of Atlantic Citythere’s no immediate threat to students and faculty.
The goal is to start installing the ventilation system this summer.
The schools were built over the landfill in 1996. Bailey says the landfill consists of construction debris, concrete, tree limbs and trash.
