Kyrillos jabs Sen. Menendez as new campaign begins
New Jersey’s new GOP nominee for the U.S. Senate is wasting little time in attacking incumbent Democrat Bob Menendez.
State Sen. Joe Kyrillos is calling Menendez a “mediocre senator” after easily defeating three little-known challengers in yesterdday’s Republican primary.
Menendez, who is seeking his second term, asked that they discuss their differences in an “honorable way.”
U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell easily bested fellow Democratic congressman Steve Rothman in a primary battle in the reconfigured 9th District. Rabbi Shmuley Boteach got the Republican nod in the 9th. He’s a TV personality and author of the book “Kosher Sex.”
Democrats chose Donald Payne Jr., Newark’s City Council president, to serve out the rest of his late father’s term and to be the Democrats’ candidate this fall in the heavily Democratic district.
