Kenney proposes tax credit to reimburse condo-dweller for trash fees

If you live in a condo in Philadelphia, chances are you’re paying for trash collection, since the buildings need more than the weekly waste pick-up the city offers.

In the name of fairness, Councilman Jim Kenney has proposed legislation his colleagues will review today to reimburse condo-dwellers for those fees.

KYW reports Kenney wants to offer condo residents a $200-per-year property tax credit. Mayor Michael Nutter’s spokesman is not interested, basically saying the fee comes with the condo, and if you don’t like it, don’t live there.

WHYY/NewsWorks’ Tom MacDonald is in Council chambers for part of the day, and will have details for us on members’ reactions.
