Kennett Square streetscapte grant part of Chester County program

Kennett Square received a grant of $512,000 from county commissioners who gave the thumbs up to $2.6 million in Community Revitalization Program grants last Friday, the Daily Local reports.

The grant covers 75 percent of the funds needed for Kennett Square to spend on the its South Walnut Streetscape program. The borough needs to match that grant with $200,000, which will not cause a tax increase in 2012.

Six other municipalities received grants as well, including Oxford, Spring City, Elverson, Malvern, West Grove, and Modena.

Walnut Street, Chestnut Street, Taylor Street and Southview Street will get sidewalk, lighting and stormwater improvements, as all seven municipalities will use the grants for pedestrian improvements.
