Justice Department closes investigation into South Jersey psych hospital
A four-year investigation into Camden County’s Ancora Psychiatric Hospital has closed.
NJ.com reports the U.S. Department of Justice has ended its probe of alleged civil rights abuses at the facility. The investigation found unsafe living conditions and a lack of access to appropriate care.
An agreement has been reached to wrap up the investigation. The hospital has reduced its number of patients and the feds will monitor the state’s steps in complying with a settlement with Disability Rights New Jersey.
The hospital is being credited with improving security and residency rights for disabled patients.
