Jury selection begins for three charges in ballpark beating

Jury selection began this morning for the three men charged with the July 2009 beating death of a man outside a Phillies game.

Charles Bowers, 37; James Groves, 48; and Francis Kirchner, 30; will face trial for the death of David Sale, who was beaten to death in the parking lot following a dispute between Sale and his friends and the trio charged that began at the Phillies game and resumed in nearby McFadden’s sports bar.

Kirchner faces the toughest sentence, as the Inquirer reports, as he’s charged with first-degree murder for allegedly delivering the kick to the head that ultimately killed Sale. Bowers and Groves face third-degree murder charges.
