July 4th celebration continues with giant hoagie

At some point in the not too distant past, Fourth of July became synonymous with a giant hoagie. As part of the Wawa Welcome America celebration, the enormous sandwich will once again descend upon Philadelphia in all its patriotic glory.

Set-up at Independence Mall began last night, and soldiers were out early this morning lending a hand as part of the day’s partnership with the USO.

Hoagie Day 2011 kicks off at noon in front of the Independence Visitor Center, where police and firefighters will debut the 4.5-ton hoagie.

There’s only a two-hour window to get at that thing, so act quick.
