International Firefighters Convention brings 4,000 to Philadelphia

The national firefighters convention kicks off today in Philadelphia, with an opening reception at the National Constitution Center.

There are about 4,000 firefighters expected to descend upon the city for this week’s events, which includes an address from Vice President Joe Biden scheduled for Wednesday.

Tensions between City Hall and the firefighter’s community are tense. The IAFF Local 22 filed a lawsuit last week against the city over the latest contract award that the Nutter administration has refused to accept.

    Philadelphia’s firefighters haven’t had a contract since 2009.
