Inspirational pro surfer, shark attack survivor to appear in Ocean Grove

Pro surfer Bethany Hamilton is coming to the Jersey Shore this month to share her story about overcoming adversity.

The native Hawaiian lost an arm in a tiger shark attack off Kauai in 2003. But that didn’t stop her from surfing.

She returned to surfing a month later, became a professional surfer in 2007, and has been a motivational speaker for years.

Now she’ll take her message of hope and perseverance to the Great Auditorium at Ocean Grove on October 15 as part of a fundraiser for Jersey Shore United, a faith-based organization that has been providing spiritual guidance and physical rebuilding assistance to families since Sandy struck.

“I love sharing my life story with people to encourage them to overcome adversity. It brings my life joy to share a message of true hope,” Hamilton said in a released issued by Jersey Shore United.
