Idle ConocoPhillips refinery gets environmental permit renewal

ConocoPhillips’ Trainer Refinery might be idle, but its permits are up to date.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection yesterday renewed the Delaware County refinery’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.

This type of permit protects nearby environmental assets like the Delaware River Estuary because until the refinery was shut down, it produced gasoline, fuel oil, kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas. The renewed permit was first issued in 1978.
