Hurricane Irene death toll reaches 45

New numbers put the Hurricane Irene death toll at 44 along the U.S. East Coast and in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

New York still has the most fatalities with nine, while Pennsylvania nd Delaware hold steady at five and two, as the Associated Press reports. New Jersey now has seven reported deaths. Most of the cases are the result of floodwater drownings, including a handful of rescue workers swept away by the fast-moving water.
