Hot, hot, hot then cool, cool, cool

On this day of remembrance, Josh Starner captured this peaceful sunrise shot in Island Beach State Park.

Simply hazy, hot, and humid today. Temperatures will hit the low 90s in most areas today, although slightly cooler in the mountains and at the coast. Heat index values will be in the mid to upper 90s (it will feel cooler at the coast and in the mountains). If you’re looking to escape the heat, with mostly sunny skies, the beach is an excellent option. Warm and humid tonight, with temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Temperatures on Thursday will be a few degrees cooler. Expect a mixture of sun and clouds during the day. Showers and thunderstorms are expected in advance of a cold front on Thursday evening. Some of the storms could be strong.

High pressure returns for Friday, delivering dry and comfortable readings. Sunny. Temperatures throughout the state will be around 70 degrees Friday, in the upper 60s on Saturday, and moderating somewhat to the low 70s on Sunday.

BOAT/BEACH: There are no marine advisories. Breakers and ocean swells are about three feet. But long period swells from Tropical Storm Gabrielle will begin to fill in tonight, lasting until Friday. Ocean temperatures are in the low 70s. South winds at 10 to 15 mph. While there is a low risk of rip currents, be advised that lifeguards are off-duty at most beaches, so exercise extreme caution in the water. The risk will increase tomorrow and Friday.
