Hope Creek nuclear plant can operate for 35 more years

    Despite opposition from a group focused on alternative energy, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission decided yesterday to renew Hope Creek’s operating license until 2046, extending the 25-year-old plant’s operations for 35 years.

    As Monika Zaleska reports for NewsWorks, Unplug Salem would prefer the state move toward wind and solar energy sources instead of furthering nuclear operations. Nearby Salem 1 and 2 reactors were each granted 20-year license extensions at the beginning of July.
