Guide dog thwarts burglary attempt in Northeast Philly

The Philadelphia Police have a man in custody this morning accused of breaking into a blind neighbor’s home overnight.

NBC10 reports that the intruders entered a home on the 4700 block of Marple Street and turned on the gas stove at around 3 a.m. The woman awoke to her guide dog’s barks and “the sound of several male voices” inside her home.

The woman’s guide dog chased the men out of the home before leading his owner to the phone to dial 911. When officers arrived they shut off the stove, which had filled the home with natural gas.

Officials have one suspect in custody, a man who is reported to live on the same block as the home he’s been accused of breaking into.
