Gosnell, seven others charged in drug conspiracy case

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has announced an indictment charging Dr. Kermit Gosnell and seven others with operating a pill mill.

Gosnell, who faces first-degree murder charges for practices at his West Philadelphia abortion clinic, is accused of, “illegally prescribing highly-addictive painkillers and sedatives outside the usual course of professional practice and not for a legitimate medical purpose.” He’s alleged to have written illegal prescriptions between June 2008 and February 2010 with the help of his staff.

Health & Science reporter Carolyn Beeler will have more details shortly. Here is the summary of charges.
