Gas leak reported near Graduate Hospital water main break

Officials say a gas leak has been reported near where crews are cleaning up from a massive water main break in Philadelphia.

Crews have shut off water in the downtown neighborhood, where the water main break displaced dozens of families Sunday night.

Residents near 21st and South streets began reporting water coming up through manholes at around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Officials say the cleanup operation was disrupted Monday when a gas main apparently broke under the weight of collapsing asphalt. Crews are now working to close the gas main.

There’s no word on what caused the water main to break.
